Dominant Mbuyamba
What a season it has been for Dutch born, Xavier Mbuyamba, on his return to the Eredivisie and his first season at FC Volendam.
Upon his arrival, the club based just outside of Amsterdam looked to be down and out. They sat at the bottom of the table, facing a challenging season ahead. Xavi arrived and his dominant performances, as well as 5 goals from centre-back, ensured the teams safety in the top division of Dutch football.
Xavier’s maturity was never in doubt but it was fantastic to finally see it come to fruition after some challenging seasons and battles with injury at his former side Chelsea Football Club. All the boy needed was a chance to shine and he certainly did that. Some top defensive performances against the big four in the league, as well as attacking prowess that a number 9 would envy.
The man from Maastricht took the season by storm, picking up a number of ‘Man of the Match’ performance awards and ultimately guiding his team to safety. His demanding leadership and technical ability combined have given FC Volendam a chance to improve on the foundations they’ve now set as they look to tackle another season in the Eredivisie in August.
